PROCESS
Overton’s collodion photographic work begins as a solitary journey into the untamed American West. He relies on a reciprocal connection to the natural world to capture landscapes with the unpredictable wet-plate medium. Within makeshift dark-rooms erected far from electricity or running water, Overton preserves the landscape on dark-glass plates full of character and artifact. To duplicate an image through this highly tangible process is an impossibility.

My artwork serves as a tangible expression of the space I seek to inhabit—an existence without constraints, a realm of pure freedom. Within this space, I am liberated to articulate ideas and thoughts without artifice or limitations, fostering an environment where evolution, challenge, error, inspiration, and reciprocal influence unfold fearlessly.
Amidst this pursuit of creativity, I have discovered no greater source of truth than the pure beauty and simplicity inherent in nature. Nature, with its boundless offerings, serves as an unfettered wellspring of inspiration. For me, art must seamlessly flow from the profound, unencumbered energy that nature generously provides—a source from which we derive the strength to heal, the curiosity to explore, and the opportunity to manifest our most elevated selves.

Eric Overton, MD, born in Utah in 1980, is a self-taught and accomplished multimedia artist, dedicated to photography, film, sculpture, and printmaking. Opting for a non-traditional path, he forwent formal art training to pursue an education in medicine, becoming a physician dedicated to promoting artful living and lifestyle medicine.
Commencing his professional art career at the age of twenty as a photographer, Overton rapidly gained acclaim, contributing to prestigious publications such as Rolling Stone Magazine. Following a successful debut solo exhibition of his photographic work in Málaga Spain, he returned to the Utah and founded Ampersand Gallery.
Balancing careers in the arts and medicine, Overton's diverse interests converged into a sculptural exploration, emphasizing figurative and modern sculpture influenced by his extensive knowledge of human anatomy and a fascination with form. His sculptural works not only display technical skill but also embody a unique perspective on the interplay between art and the human experience.
Working as a multimedia artist, Overton's current artistic trajectory revolves around capturing the essence of the American West. Utilizing various mediums, he immerses himself in the spirit and myth of the West, weaving a narrative that reflects the distinctive character of the region.
